The Sopranos boasts of having one of the most enviable and impressive pilot episodes in the history of TV shows. The pilot episode alone, made the story strong and gave the show a much needed strong base foundation. The Sopranos is probably one of the best shows in the crime drama genre and has carved a niche for itself. The actors, the crew, the guys in charge of the lighting and the director have formed an impressive team and have worked their way to success.
The show’s protagonist has been modeled keeping in mind a strong character based plot and the entire cast is a perfect tight suit fit for their roles. The beginning of the show was very different. The scene showing a mobster opening himself up to the psychiatrist was amazing; to say the least, while Tony’s mom and uncle were one of the most talented supporting actors that I had ever seen.
David Chase had already been a head-turner in the industry, thanks to his hit show Kolchak-The Night Stalker. This was David’s launch pad into what has turned into an incredible journey for him as a writer and director. David Chase’s impeccable direction and script creation has propelled the Sopranos into an ethereal aura, which is characterized by sensible and eloquent dialogues.
The actors, as I said before are a perfect match for their roles and they have carried out the job with style and panache. Although, I should say the nephew was the black sheep and personally, I felt that he stood from the rest of the crew and wasn’t up to the mark at all. Not one bit. Flawed acting and intermittent dull episodes have proven to be q slight problem for the Sopranos.
HBO can be rest assured that it has a winner. The Sopranos, according to me, will run for at least another season or two, at the worst. The show has grossed loads of cash and has also managed to garner a huge fan following around the world. The whole show is supported by a strong psychological theme and has the ability to turn something comic, into something violent.
The show is the perfect blend of all the essential ingredients, namely comedy, action, violence, superb dialogue and drama and the crime factor. The show is known for its ability to remain uncannily fresh even after several seasons on the air. The creator of the show has also a very bad habit of putting the show on wait and this leads to days and days of agony for the viewers, because such is the suspense that is created by the Sopranos.
All in all, the Sopranos is an all-round winner, but with minor flaws. The show has received mainly positive criticism, but nothing worse and it also boasts of world-wide fame and an unbeatable cast of actors. All I can say is that there’s a lot more to come!
